BSH-Cert - Notified Body for Navigation and Radio-Communication Equipment

! ! ! BSH-Cert will end its activities on 31. December 2015 ! ! !

The Ministry for Transport and digital infrastructure has published an formal act, that will end
BSH-Cert activities on 31. December 2015

Therefore all MED Module D certificates of BSH-Cert will be limited to end of 2015.

Until 2015 BSH-Cert will provide you with the known service.

This does not affect the other activities of BSH as competent authority for navigational equipment on ships beyond this date.
In particular, the accredited test laboratory for navigation and communication systems (S3) of BSH - with the existing scope and contact persons - will still:

  • work in international bodies (e.g. IMO) and committees (e.g. ISO, IEC),
  • contribute to the adoption and implementation of international rules to national directives
  • provide knowhow for navigational systems and their implementation on ships
  • perform national certification procedures and
  • will continue the testing service as accredited laboratory and provide test-reports for MED and national approvals, market surveillance and other purposes (also as BSH accepted lab).

In practice this will affect your company:

  • BSH-Cert will not submit any certificate after 2015. All processes shall be closed before.
  • The validity of Module B certificates will remain unchanged.
  • The validity of Module D certificates will end latest end of 2015 or before if your company wants so.

If a company wants to end a Module D process before the Module D regularly expires, BSH-Cert will draw back the Module D certification immediately.

Conformity-assessment for Life-saving appliances, Marine pollution prevention equipment and Fire protection equipment based on the Marine Equiopment Directive are performed in Germany by the Testing and Certification Body for Ship's Equipment of the Ship Safety Division at BG Transport and Traffic.
